Shanxi Medical University located in Taiyuan, the capital city of Shanxi Province, has a 104 years of history.Shanxi Medical University was founded in 1919 in the ancient city of Bingzhou. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the school entered a new period of development. In 1953, the school was established independently and renamedas Shanxi Medical College. In 1996, it was renamed as Shanxi Medical University.
Our university is the third batch of doctoral degree authorization units in China, the first batch of doctoral degree authorization units in Shanxi Provinceandthe first batch of master'sand bachelor’sdegree authorization units in China. Our school is one of the universities supported by the National Basic Ability Construction for Central and Western Universities Project and among the first batch of pilot universities with Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program. We are also honored with High-level Public Health Construction University, National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Construction Units.

The school has three campuses inChuanzhi, Yingze and Zhongdu, covering a total area of 9.84 square kilometers and the construction area of 710,000 square meters. The university has 22,127 full-time students from different provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China, including 14,770 ordinary undergraduate students, 6,267 master's students, 579 doctoral students and 511 international students.Our students have won the gold medal of the main track project of the China International "Internet +" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for three consecutive years. Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 140,000 medical and health professionals, represented by Zhao Xuefang, the winner of the country's first "Bethune Medal" and "Good Doctor of the People", Xu Jianguo and Tian Zhigang, the academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Yang Hui,the winner of the Nightingale Medal.
In September 2022, the Seventh Congress of Shanxi Medical University of the Communist Party of China was successfully held. The conference put forward the goal of "Bbuilding a national first-classresearch andapplication-oriented medical university" and the development strategy of "taking two steps", made the strategic plan of implementing "seven major projects" and "20 actions", making "three breakthroughs" and opening a new chapter of "four first-class" in the next five years. The university has earnestly implemented major strategic plans such as the cooperation between the topuniversities. We have signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the School of Medicine of Tsinghua University to jointly contribute to the development of health industry in the new era.Moreover,the University has established cooperative relations with universities and institutions in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, Russia, Australia, Greece, Switzerland and other countries to carry out extensive exchanges between teachers and students and international scientific research cooperation.
